Background and Context
In India, mobility challenges are a significant barrier for specially-abled individuals in accessing education, employment, healthcare, and social activities. Public transportation is often inaccessible, and traditional mobility aids such as manual wheelchairs or bicycles require significant physical effort, limiting their usability. Recognizing the need for an affordable, accessible, and environmentally friendly solution, the Mobility Access Foundation launched a pilot project to develop and distribute electric tricycles (e-trikes) for specially-abled individuals. The primary aim of this project was to provide these individuals with an innovative mobility solution that enhances independence, improves access to opportunities, and fosters greater social inclusion.
